Neutron and X-ray science for industrial technology transitions (NEXT)

Reference number
Coordinator Kungliga Tekniska Högskolan - Kungliga Tekniska Högskolan Inst f materialvetenskap
Funding from Vinnova SEK 36 000 000
Project duration November 2023 - December 2028
Status Ongoing
Venture New call for proposals KC
Call Competence centers within Sustainable industry and Digital transformation 2022

Purpose and goal

The Competence center NEXT will use synchrotron light and neutron methods to speed up the development of industrial materials and processes. Material and process challenges within e.g. transport, energy and manufacturing will be addressed by the consortium consisting of universities, research institutes, large-scale research facilities and small and large companies. The goal is that the methodology that is developed and implemented for various sustainability challenges within NEXT significantly contributes to the sustainable development of the industry.

Expected results and effects

-Improved innovation power in sustainable development of industry -Mainstreaming the use of large-scale research infrastructures in industrial research and development -Building an international leading consortium for sustainable innovations -Training of leading competence -Cutting-edge research in materials and processes -Cutting-edge research in synchrotron and neutron- methods and use

Planned approach and implementation

NEXT will work with a principle where large-scale research methods are developed simultaneously with the generation of specific research results within materials and processes. In this way, the methodology can be validated for industrially relevant issues continuously. When the methodology is developed, it will be disseminated for further use within and outside NEXT, which will significantly increase the innovation power for sustainable transformations of the industry.
