Important results from the project
The project fulfilled all objectives by establishing a national collaboration structure for 3D printing in Swedish healthcare. All regions were engaged and a national network was formed. The project delivered regulatory support, a systematic health economic literature review with a framework, and a process for collaboration with industry. An important outcome was the establishment of a non-profit association to ensure continued national collaboration after project completion.
Expected long term effects
The project is expected to enable faster and more equitable implementation of 3D printing in Swedish healthcare through increased national coordination and knowledge sharing. The non-profit association forms the long-term structure of the national network and supports coherent decision-making, patient safety and efficient use of resources. It enables continued collaboration between healthcare, industry, academia and authorities in regulation, health economics and new technology.
Approach and implementation
The project was implemented through four parallel work packages focusing on national collaboration, regulation, health economics and collaboration with industry. The structure enabled both planned deliverables and continuous adaptation to emerging needs. The project largely followed the planned timeline, while allowing new issues to be integrated. Collaboration between regions, academia, industry and authorities worked well and was essential to the project’s implementation.
