Important results from the project

The purpose of the project was to influence travel habits with the aim of reducing trips done by not so environmentally friendly ways. Influence to change was done by adding sustainable travel opportunities and providing services locally in the area that reduce the need to travel, or shorten the trips that have to be made. The aim has been achieved, the follow-up shows changed attitudes towards a reduced need to own a car and small but statistically uncertain movements towards more sustainable travel options.

Expected long term effects

During the project, as planned, 5 different services and the mobile mobility hub were launched at 13 different locations in the area. Expected effects in terms of usage have been achieved for most of the services. Electric cargo bikes are the least frequently used service. Small but statistically uncertain indications in the form of changed travel habits can be seen after 9 months of operation. After the project, the services will remain at least until September with the hope of further follow up of their impact.

Approach and implementation

This project was a collaboration between Region Stockholm, Upplands-Väsby municipality and private actors who run the services offered. The region was coordinating and applied for the permissions that were required. All actors were involved in the project based on their own interest in learning about effects and did not receive compensation for any increased operating costs. The working method was challenging but very useful for this type of project where uncertainties require collaboration across many organizational boundaries.
