Important results from the project
The aim was to develop an adaptive fixture for machining and the goal was to show that it is possible to reduce geometric distortions with the support of the demonstrator. An adaptive fixture concept was developed and physically tested at KTH. In addition, virtual principles for NC code optimization, analysis of machining strategies and calculation of fixture forces have been developed. A technical report, including a literature review has been produced. The objectives have thus been met.
Expected long term effects
The project has resulted in a demonstrator for an adaptive fixture. Virtual demonstrators for compensating cutting paths, analysis of machining strategies and analysis fixture forces have been developed. A technical report "Minimizing machining distortions with support from adaptive fixtures and adjustment of NC-code" (RISE Report 2020-11-12:P102403) has been produced including a literature review. The project has created incentives for several further development projects in the area.
Approach and implementation
The project was carried out with the support of physical experiments with an adaptive fixture and simulation with FEM based on the contour method. Regular project meetings have been conducted with the support of TEAMS where the work has been planned and results analyzed. A technical report has been produced.
