Purpose and goal

Hagnesia is developing a direct drive motor/generator technology with high power density which, unlike conventional machines, has no theoretical lower limit for how compact it can be built. The project aims to adapt the technology, which has so far been developed for wind power, to also suit different vehicle applications, which require higher RPMs and an even more compact design. The goal is for the miniaturized electric motor to unlock new possibilities for electrification in transportation.

Expected effects and result

The project will validate the miniaturized technology and also match it against various possible vehicle applications and collaboration partners. Setting out roadmaps for business and technology development, the project will lead to larger R&I projects together with customers and partners, with the aim to enable more sustainable and competitive zero-emission vehicles.

Planned approach and implementation

Step 1: a feasibility study is carried out, which identifies possible vehicle applications as well as R&D work to develop and validate the technology. Step 2: research and experimental validation of the technology´s performance and characteristics. At the same time, customer benefits for selected applications are explored at the system level. Step 3: conceptual design and development plans for selected products. Step 4, a motor prototype is manufactured and a pilot project is planned
