Purpose and goal

Fairtrade Sverige, together with Organic Sweden, will develop and test a mobile-based micro-training for staff in the grocery retail sector. The aim is to strengthen staff´s ability to translate sustainability goals into action, increase the visibility of organic and Fairtrade-labeled products – and influence consumer choices in a more sustainable direction through short learning moments and behavioral science assignments in stores.

Expected effects and result

The project is expected to result in a tested prototype for mobile-based micro-training and a bank of behavioral interventions for the store environment. In the short term, the ability and motivation of staff to actively expose organic and Fairtrade-certified products is strengthened. In the longer term, the goal is to create a scalable model that can be integrated into the chains´ regular skills development and contribute to changing consumption patterns on a large scale.

Planned approach and implementation

The project is implemented in three stages: first, the content and method of the micro-training are co-created together with store staff and behavioral experts. Then, the training is tested in the pilot stores in two stages, where staff carry out short learning moments and practical store assignments based on nudging and choice architecture. Finally, the data is analyzed and results are disseminated to grocery chains and food companies as a basis for scaling up.
