Purpose and goal

The aim of the project was to illustrate to policy makers as well as to innovators how innovation procurements and innovation-friendly procurements can increase competitiveness of the Swedish medtech industry and simultaneously yield new solutions. Furthermore, the project´s goal was to facilitate the adaptation of health care organisations to the reality and technical conditions which influence health care development.

Results and expected effects

A university course, ´Safe Devices in Medical Care´ for health care staff was initiated following the first workshop dealt with the need for technical skills in health care. In september 2012, an exclusive round-table discussion with approx 30 participants was organised with a focus on innovation procurements and innovation-friendly procurements. The project was finalised with a conference ´En vision för svensk vård´ on May 27th, 2013, which registered 91 participants.

Approach and implementation

The project was implemented in 3 phases: 2 workshops and a conference with multi-professional participation. During the workshops knowledge and experiences on innovation procurement, innovation-friendly procurement and the development of strategic healthcare expertise in medical technology were exchanged. The outcome were concluded in a final conference under the presence of Karin Johansson, State Secretary at the Ministry of Social Affairs.The number of participants suggests that the activities attracted considerable interest.
