Call Advanced digitalization for digital value chains 2024

Purpose and goal

The MedChain project aims to develop a digital platform for medical product passports (MPP) that integrates lifecycle monitoring, traceability and sustainability data for medical products in real time. The platform will connect manufacturers, healthcare providers, recyclers and regulators to streamline product lifecycle management – from design and manufacturing to end-of-life use, maintenance and recycling – while promoting interoperability and the circular economy.

Expected effects and result

The potential of the MedChain project is to strengthen Sweden´s capacity within the circular economy to effectively manage data over the entire life cycle of medical products. By developing an integrated platform for Medical Product Passports (MPP), MedChain will create a seamless and transparent digital value chain for medical products.

Planned approach and implementation

The MedChain project is divided into six work areas that together cover project management, technology development, standardization, pilot studies, sustainability integration and knowledge dissemination. Each area is led by a responsible party and is carried out in cooperation between the consortium members. The project combines technological developments, such as IoT and blockchain, with pilot studies in healthcare, while developing standards and sustainability tools.
