Purpose and goal

LSAM-OPT project aims to revolutionize composite part design and manufacturing through the integration of large-scale additively manufactured components and thermoplastic resin-infused fibre reinforcement using advanced topology optimization techniques. The LSAM-OPT project, in opposition to traditional composite manufacturing techniques, proposes a novel approach to manufacture a base structure with internal or surface-near cavities along the load-bearing paths by the LSAM technique

Expected effects and result

LSAM-OPT framework will focus on industrial implementation in Sweden and is intended to be the springboard for new commercial relationships to be built for the valorisation of LSAM in high-end industrial sectors. The Swedish consortium partners have prominent roles within the project’s value chain, which will help to broaden the reach of the project developments.

Planned approach and implementation

LSAM-OPT officially starts 2025-01-01 and lasts 36 months. The international project is structured so that each partner knows its interfaces (material and information flows) to the other partners and work packages and can intervene and make corrections at any time to achieve the objectives. The international project is divided into ten work packages (WP), each with Tasks (T), Deliverables (D) and Milestones (M), that are explicitly oriented to the technological value chain.

The project description has been provided by the project members themselves and the text has not been looked at by our editors.
