Status Completed

Important results from the project

The study aims to investigate the conditions and opportunities to in practice be able to take advantage of and take advantage of opportunities offered with local 5G spectrum licenses to be able to build and operate local (non-public) 5G networks for industrial applications. The work is divided into two parts 1. To form a constellation and make a proposal for FoI project 2. Analysis of challenges and conditions, We have formed a versatile constellation and submitted a project application. The analysis is documented in a public report as well as in a paper at an international conference.

Expected long term effects

We have submitted a proposal for an FoI project with testing of industrial local 5G network with different types of actors in the value chain; industrial end users, equipment and telecommunications service providers, as well as PTS and KTH. We have examined the governing conditions and obstacles to build and operate local non-public networks using local spectrum licenses, including: - Development and comparison of alternative solutions for local networks - Compilation of alternatives for building the ecosystem - A literature study on local networks, coexistence and business models

Approach and implementation

The planned approach could be followed and the project group could early agree on the aim and focus of the project application we produced and submitted. Partners have actively participated in the work by providing input on system requirements and usage cases, and providing feedback n the problem description and proposal. The importance of the literature study is emphasized as we can state that the problems we have identified (eg about radio interference and coexistence for local TDD networks and also ecosystems) are largely not on the agenda for R&D in the "mainstream" 5G development.

The project description has been provided by the project members themselves and the text has not been looked at by our editors.
