Important results from the project
The LCCO-project purpose is to challenge the traditional organization of maintenance departments, and the project has fulfilled all four major goals: 1. Formulated a state-of-the-art description of organizational structures; 2. Described visionary ideas on how to transform traditional maintenance departments; 3. Specified design parameters for the development of new maintenance organizations; and 4. Developed a project application and consortium for full-scale research project.
Expected long term effects
The results from the LCCO-project has been documented in educational material that can be used by industry and universities. This includes: 1. Theory on organizational design of maintenance; 2. New alternative organizational structures for maintenance; 3. Defined design parameters; 4. Expected challenges and effects of new organizational structures. These results increased the preparedness of industrial firms in purposing organizational changed aimed at implemented new digital technologies and attracting future generation workers to maintenance.
Approach and implementation
Discrete and continuous manufacturing firm as well as firms in adjacent sectors (e.g. energy production) have collaborated with researchers during the project to assess how the traditional maintenance department can be transformed into a future, modern organization. Close collaboration between industry and academia enabled the project to study both fundamental aspects of organizational design as well as visionary ideas about completely novel organizations. Time plan and milestones have been followed and all project goals and expected results have been fulfilled.
