Call Plastic Contract for Sustainable Plastic Use

Purpose and goal

The project aims to map the use of composite materials in building products. With increased knowledge of products, composition and systems for recycling or reuse, we will be able to propose recycling techniques for each composition. The goal is to create the conditions for a contract between the parties in the value chain where they work towards a reduced climate impact through the choice of material composition, resource-efficient production, reduced waste and improved end-of-life management.

Expected effects and result

By mapping this category of construction products, an overview of products on the market, volumes, material composition and handling during their lifetime is created. With increased knowledge, it will be possible to improve sorting and waste management. A mapping also provides direct insight into the extent of national production and imports. Through cooperation and dialogue between the parties, the project will form a draft of a plastics contract for increased recycling and resource efficiency.

Planned approach and implementation

The project consists of four work packages. Initially, a mapping of material flows, market players and existing handling routines is carried out, followed by an analysis of technical, economic and policy-related barriers and identification of solutions for increased circularity. Based on this, a first draft of a contract is developed, with objective, commitments and indicators anchored in the industry. The project´s results are communicated in a final report and open webinars.
