Important results from the project

The goal of the project was to develop a platform which creates incentives for consumers to eat more climate-smart food. The overall goal is met, during the project we have developed and tested the proposed platform in the market. The number of downloads exceeded our expectations and soon after the launch, we received a number of requests from restaurants that wanted to join the platform, which indicates that there is interest from both types of users to use the platform.

Expected long term effects

Through the market survey, we were able to determine that financial incentives along with visualization of users´ climate impact were important aspects to motivate consumers to eat more climate smart. The prototype that was launched in the market incorporates both incentives. The launch was considered successful with the number of downloads and returning users exceeding our expectations, despite almost no marketing. The app´s discounts were rarely used, which according to the users is because there was only one available restaurant in the app.

Approach and implementation

The project began with market research which laid the foundation for the platform´s design and opinions were gathered from both consumers and restaurants. We then explored how gamification & nudging could be utilized in the platform, concepts that according to the survey were considered important. Product development continued during the spring despite some complications due to Covid-19, which led to the launch being postponed. After the launch, user data and feedback have been collected, information that is considered very important if we are to further develop the project.
