iViP - strategic Internationalisation plan for the ViP competence centre

Reference number
Coordinator Statens väg- och transportforskningsinstitut
Funding from Vinnova SEK 600 000
Project duration December 2012 - May 2014
Status Completed

Purpose and goal

The purpose of the iViP project has been to position ViP internationally and begin to establish international cooperation for the benefit of the parties, and to develop and implement a strategy for that. Knowledge of the ViP Centre (concept, partners, projects, etc.) has been disseminated widely through presentations, seminars and visits. International simulator facilities have been visited for benchmarking. Topics of common interest have been identified and ideas for collaboration and exchange are discussed. A draft internationalisation strategy for ViP has been formulated.

Results and expected effects

18 global simulator environments have been benchmarked, hosts gave access and shared experiences openly, and good opportunities for collaboration and long-term relations created. Several interests to cooperate have been expressed, areas for cooperation/sharing identified and joint projects are discussed. Some intentions are formalized in MoUs. Although SMEs in ViP have not expressed a clear interest today new international market opportunities for them are being watched. The internationalization strategy formulated needs refinement and further anchorage at ViP parties.

Approach and implementation

iViP and internationalization have continuously been discussed at ViP workshops and the parties given the opportunity to provide input and participate. Existing international contacts and cooperation, and parties´ wishes and priorities for future collaboration have been compiled. Benchmarking/studying simulator facilities (more than thought due to interest to see us) has been the main activity. Simulators have been tested and knowledge and experiences exchanged. Analysis of documentation and experiences and follow-up of collaboration ideas have not been finalized.
