Purpose and goal

For 6G, digital twins are considered to improve the network and assist in sensing/localization functionality. At the core of such digital twins are accurate 3D models. It is of great importance to understand the required accuracy of the 3D models. A mismatch between the digital twin (3D model) and the real world can have a profound impact on achievable localization performance.

Expected effects and result

Based on randomly introduced errors into the map of the digital twin, the achievable localization accuracy should be investigated. The results should provide guidelines on the requirements on digital maps for digital twin applications for localization purposes.

Planned approach and implementation

1) A literature survey on digital twins for localization and sensing should be conducted. This should as well include a study on typical raytracing techniques that will be considered in the digital twin. 2) A method for positioning with the digital twin should be proposed and implemented. 3) Simulation study sweeping typical map error parameters and evaluating the localization accuracy. 4) Conclusion of the achievable results and recommendations for required map accuracy.
