Purpose and goal

The goal is to design a non-proprietary, technology-agnostic interworking protocol to ensure different systems can share data. By identifying a "minimal dataset" for safety, we will create a lean software stack that translates raw sensor data into standard V2X messages. This software focuses on modularity and vendor neutrality to allow for easier integration. The project will validate the architecture through a functional prototype.

Expected effects and result

Expected results include a non-proprietary RSU prototype for seamless I2V communication. By utilizing a lean, technology-agnostic protocol and a ´minimal dataset,´ the project is expected to provide evidence for future standardization. This vendor-neutral architecture aims to lower costs and accelerate safety systems for vulnerable road users. Ultimately, it is expected to improve infrastructure readiness for safe, automated transport systems.

Planned approach and implementation

The project follows an agile Scrum methodology across five work packages. We will first define technical requirements to select hardware components for the RSU. Simultaneously, we will design a technology-agnostic protocol based on a "minimal dataset" for key safety use cases. Integration will focus on a modular software stack that translates data for V2X communication. The process concludes with a functional prototype and reporting.
