Reference number
Coordinator Arbio AB
Funding from Vinnova SEK 236 000
Project duration November 2025 - April 2026
Status Ongoing
Venture The strategic innovation programme Bioinnovation

Purpose and goal

The aim of the project is to describe the possibilities of non-traditional material flows and interconnection between industries in the bio-based sector, in addition to existing activities and operations. Can industrial symbiosis as a concept be developed to benefit the transition to a circular and bio-based society? The aim of the project is to formulate and anchor a clear picture of concrete possibilities with industrial symbiosis within the BioInnovation business area.

Expected effects and result

The project will result in a description of concrete opportunities for non-traditional material flows and cross-links between Swedish bio-based industries with a focus on the forest industry, chemical industry and textile industry. The description should be well anchored in these industries. In the longer term, the project is expected to contribute to better resource utilization through new material flows and cross-links between industries, as well as to a competitive Swedish bio-based sector.

Planned approach and implementation

The project will be based on available material from previous interviews and data collection. Identified conditions and challenges that exist in the relevant industries will be discussed by relevant actors around the same table to discuss the development of non-traditional symbioses and material flows. The purpose of the conversations is to see how industrial symbiosis can be taken to the next level, which benefits Sweden´s transition to a circular and bio-based society in general.

The project description has been provided by the project members themselves and the text has not been looked at by our editors.
