Important results from the project

The Heliple-2 project´s objective was to demonstrate that it is possible to create a federated PLM (Product Lifecycle Management) capability by integrating independent engineering discipline specific PLM systems using the OSLC standard. The project has demonstrated that federated PLM based on OSLC is a feasible and realistic alternative to a monolithic PLM system from technical, user efficiency, operational and feasibility perspectives.

Expected long term effects

The project´s results mean that an organization or development project can confidently choose the most suitable development tools and still create an integrated development environment. From a developing organization´s perspective, this means that it can provide modern environments for efficient development. For tool suppliers, mainly smaller ones, this means that they get access to a larger market. In addition, the market opens up for a new type of organization: PLM integrators.

Approach and implementation

The project was carried out in a traditional approach with 6 different work packages. Because of the small scope , the communication between the work packages was efficient. The project had the privilege of having access to experts in both OSLC and STEP, which enabled efficient problem analysis. Implementation of the OSLC interfaces worked very well thanks to a good collaboration between Lynxwork and Eurostep. As project manager I can only thank the project participants for the very efficient work carried out.
