Important results from the project
The project has enabled the Saab industrial PhD student to resume the PhD studies and formulate research goals by surveying the state-of-the-art literature and by identifying a hardware platform suitable for (covert) side channel studies. The goal was to provide the foundation for the continued PhD studies. The goal has partly been achieved through formulation of a follow up project, which has not yet been granted.
Expected long term effects
The industrial PhD student has formulated research goals and research questions relevant for the PhD work ahead, but also interesting from an industry perspective. By performing experiments on the chosen platform (RISC-V deployed on an FPGA) the project has identified exploitable (covert) side channels.
Approach and implementation
It turned up that the first half of the project period collided with the industrial PhD student’s commitment at the company. Thereby, the project got a slower start than anticipated, but it has been compensated for in the later part of the project.
