Important results from the project

The project met its objective by optimizing microwave-based graphitization, securing raw materials and producing high-quality biographite, confirmed by Raman and SEM analysis. An initial LCA screening showed lower energy consumption and environmental impact compared to traditional methods. In addition, a stable supply chain was established and the feasibility of the process was confirmed, enabling future industrial scale-up and contributing to sustainable materials development.

Expected long term effects

As mentioned previously, graphite is a critical raw material used in many key areas, including electrifictaion. The project will help create the pre-requisites for establishing a full Swedish sustainable and resilient production value-chain in the future - assuming the process can be efficiently and competitively scaled-up at the correct quality and performance levels.

Approach and implementation

The project was implemented according to plan with well-defined work packages for process optimization, material supply, quality analysis and environmental assessment. The activities followed the schedule and no major deviations occurred. The cooperation between the parties worked well and external factors did not affect the course of the project. The results were achieved according to the goals and the project laid a strong foundation for continued scale-up and industrial application.
