Purpose and goal

Challenge today’s actors, awaken new perspectives, and engage dialogues. The modern forest is managed by a new generation of forest owners and managers who bring different perspectives but share a common goal – sustainable forestry. Beginning with in-depth interviews with a diverse range of stakeholders, followed by a co-creation workshop, we collaboratively explore potential future scenarios. The outcomes are presented in a fictional magazine – Skogens branschtidning 2050.

Expected effects and result

Through design fiction, we explore, illuminate and critique possible futures for the forest value chain. The goal is to create concrete visualizations of near futures that can support dialogues and strategies for sustainable forestry. The method helps us and our actors think beyond the limitations of today and creates an engaging and inclusive discussion about the future.

Planned approach and implementation

Desktop research on trends is followed by 10 in-depth interviews and a co-creation workshop. For the workshop, we develop discussion cards to support the process. Provocative visualizations are created through fictional articles, interviews, ads, and graphic design for the physical and digital catalog. The opening, held in the forest, begins with a forest bath to create a contemplative mindset, followed by a moderated dialogue.
