Important results from the project
The project has increased knowledge of foresight methods among participating officials and residents. A method guide has been developed that provides support for using foresight in the municipality. A site-specific "donut" has been built together with children, which they took pride in and it has been noted by several media outlets. Residents have also participated in study circles to test foresight methods and visitors at Tomelilla market were given creative opportunities to imagining futures.
Expected long term effects
Foresight has been integrated into the municipality´s "donut model", which provide increased ability to plan for a safe and just space for humanity and planet to rhrive. Opportunities to use foresight methods to increase creativity in planning and dialogue processes will contribute to steering, in accpordance with the "donut model". Continued research is possible, partly by the individual researchers who participated in the project but also at academic institutions and research centers.
Approach and implementation
Project manager and employees at the municipality plannig department have worked closely with researchers from Linnaeus University and Malmö University to link foresight methods to the "donut model". Through study circles, placemaking and interactions in public spaces, residents and municipal employees have been able to participate in shared learning. The focus has been on Tomelilla as a place, and on practicing the ability to imagine futures, shifting towards futures inside the "donut model".
