Purpose and goal
FLEXIFORM verifies STILFOLD´s tool-free manufacturing technology – flexible, circular forming of sheet metal into lightweight 3D structures without dies – in an industrial use case at TRATON. Iterative design, prototyping and a pilot series of 50–100 units. The project delivers a decision-ready basis for series production and a reusable working model for innovation partnerships between startups and OEMs.
Expected effects and result
Demonstrate STILFOLD’s tool-free manufacturing technology in a TRATON use case, achieve TRL 8 and BRL 8, deliver decision-making documentation for series production, and establish a documented working model for innovation partnerships between the parties.
Planned approach and implementation
The project runs for 10.5 months (May 2026–March 2027) and is divided into four sequential work packages, from requirements to implementation planning. Each ends with a milestone as a formal decision point before the next phase, reducing rework and ensuring buy-in from both parties. The TRL shift from 6 to 8 is driven by iterative design in WP2, pilot series in WP3 and vehicle integration to qualify the solution at system level.
