Purpose and goal

In this project , we have formulated the following goals in line with the 15-minute city concept: 1. develop sustainable business models for the proposed multimodal system; 2. formulate and optimize the operational system for passengers and goods; 3. evaluate social, societal, economic, and environmental impacts of the new system; 4. demonstrate the concept and merits through a field pilot project.

Expected effects and result

The project will benefit various user groups by replacing private cars, thus contributing to sustainability and net zero emissions. The results will provide guidance and a set of recommendations and best practices for the deployment and further research of automated and personal mobility solutions. The most important long-term effects of this project will be reflected in terms of more efficient travel, more accessible transportation and lower energy consumption. Key results will be shared through publications, conference articles, and workshops.

Planned approach and implementation

The structure has been designed to be appropriate to the scope of the work. Since the applications of modular vehicles are new, we will first investigate the business model to ensure practicality and conduct demand prediction (WP1). WP2 then designs the multimodal transport system to match demand from WP1. WP3 will be devoted to evaluating the system from social, sustainable, and safety perspectives. WP4 demonstrates the concept and designed system with a field pilot project that will engage and be advised by all stakeholders.
