EHDS Begins at data entry – getting data right from the start

Reference number
Coordinator Notchup Consulting AB
Funding from Vinnova SEK 500 000
Project duration September 2025 - February 2026
Status Ongoing
Venture SWElife, strategic project

Purpose and goal

The project aims to clarify both the challenges and the prerequisites for creating and sharing health data in a way that supports both healthcare and research. By addressing issues such as standardization, secure data sharing, and coordinated practices, the pre-study will highlight measures that the regions – preferably in collaboration – can take. Together, these insights will form the foundation for a future strategy and preparations for the European Health Data Space (EHDS).

Expected effects and result

In the short term, the project is expected to contribute to a shared understanding of challenges, improved coordination, and examples that can be developed further. For the government and national actors, it provides a basis to inform future initiatives, while healthcare, research, and industry gain a clearer view of challenges and possible ways forward. For patients, the benefits are indirect, but the project may be a first step toward developments that over time strengthen healthcare.

Planned approach and implementation

The work includes a review of existing reports, interviews with key experts, and an overview of health information systems. Good examples from Sweden are highlighted to illustrate possible ways of working, while dialogue with regional representatives explores continued collaboration. Through workshops and regular follow-ups, knowledge is shared and results are anchored.
