Effective experimental innovationa pilot study for identifying needs and a norm critical tool

Reference number
Coordinator Luleå tekniska universitet - Fastelaboratoriet
Funding from Vinnova SEK 300 000
Project duration September 2014 - March 2015
Status Completed

Purpose and goal

Objective and goals were achieved through visiting research environments and arranging two interactive workshops, one implemented during the Faste Laboratory´s partners meeting (intressentdagar?) with industrial and academic partners. The concept ´norm-critical´ was explored to support innovation needs. The other workshop scrutinized a tailored action oriented use of utopian Future Workshop combined with a ´table game´. Concepts and processes were evaluated and judged to have a large potential of utilization.

Results and expected effects

A general result is the significance of the joint collaboration between the industrial and academic partners in the Faste Laboratory and the gender researcher during the first workshop. An extension of the concept norm critical innovation emerged showing new innovation needs. The experiment on the second workshop with the Future Workshop and the ´table game´ showed an increased innovation height/pitch contributing with new perspectives linked to the ´common sector´ with potentials for new ideas in technical milieus.

Approach and implementation

Interactive workshops have been used to create broader and more in-depth knowledge- and experience exchanges between industrial- and academic partners and gender researchers about important concepts such as norm critical innovation. These work procedures and processes are also used as means to anchor a more sustainable implementation process. Inspiration from new approaches in action oriented research environments in social- and gender sciences have shown possibilities to new thinking in technical milieus.
