Call Drones for a safer society

Important results from the project

Collaboration and better situational awareness when rail traffic has stopped, all aiming at deploying the right resources and decisions efficiently, in order to safely kick-start traffic. EDIT 3.0 has demonstrated & developed the required collaboration and a value chain, from collection (sensors on drones & dash-type cameras on trains) to efficient decisions on resource to send into action. At the same time, we have gradually developed and demonstrated the ability to fly BVLOS. Increased safety on the tracks, punctuality & regularity in rail, for a more sustainable & safer society.

Expected long term effects

EDIT 3.0 focuses on live test work methods in the railway industry, ie to study use of procedures according to TDOK 2014: 0088/89 "Handling alarms in the event of an accident, incident and deviation on the railway", in scenarios where new sources of knowledge such as sensor data from drones and film from "cameras on locomotives". Thereby demonstrate and develop how effects can be achieved, eg; - restart of traffic faster, about 25% in typical cases. - through fact support for decision on action & resources faster - within & out of sight with support of RISE & UAS zone.

Approach and implementation

Throughout, the focus is on the entire value chain or circle; 1. traffic stops, 2. mobile data collection, 3. analysis, 4. common situational awareness & understanding between stakeholders, 5. collaborative decision-making, 6. Action, follow-up & investigation. Track is clear! Demonstration & development were carried out as three repetitions of the same eight application cases, eg uncertain collisions - whether it was wildlife or person (important for the length of the train delay). Demos were carried out in Västervik´s test bed, including Sweden´s first UAS zone for BVLOS flights
