Funding from Vinnova SEK 300 000
Project duration April 2012 - March 2014
Status Completed

Purpose and goal

We will develop a simple non-invasive test to discriminate AD patients from controls at an early stage by further validating in two steps: measure levels of biomarkers in CSF in older subjects in Japan with cognitive function pre-screened by tactile angle test; plan to apply selected tests in Sweden.

Results and expected effects

Findings from the computed tactile angle tests can be applied in dementia assessment in primary care. More knowledge is needed about how cognitive impairments are started in AD. An effective treatment will hopefully reduce the effect of the cognitive decline, but a more sensitive method to detect early difference between MCI and aged healthy controls is needed in order to achieve an early diagnosis. This provides both humanitarian social benefits for people with AD.

Approach and implementation

1st period: 1st meeting, 22-28 october, 2011 i Japan for planning cooperation project. Deliver data for levels of A- and p-tau i CSF in human patients which are collected in Japan. 2nd period: 2nd meeting, 9-11 april 2013 in Sweden. Set up a timeline for carrying out planned tests in Sweden.
