Purpose and goal
The goal of the project is to combine two technologies developed by each participant into a combined medical device product, DropLink. DropLink combines a technology for automatic flushing of the IV line that ensures 100% drug delivery with a safety connection that has been clinically proven to reduce dislodged IV catheters by 73%.
Expected effects and result
IV therapy comes with two major risks: incomplete dose of medication reaching the patient and accidental dislodgement of the IV catheter during treatment. This leads to patient harm, waste of valuable medication, increased workload and high healthcare costs. Unflushed IV lines lead to incorrect dosing and contribute to antimicrobial resistance (AMR). The fact that 10% of IV catheters are pulled out during use leads to medication waste, patient harm and work environment risks.
Planned approach and implementation
During the project, the two technologies will be adapted for full compatibility, ensuring that they can be integrated with all IV sets on the market. The work is divided into six work packages 1) Product System Specification, 2-3) Subcomponents Maturation, 4) Pre-clinical documentation, 5) Dissemination & Exploitation and 6) Project Management. The project runs over 24 months and is evenly distributed between a Swedish and a Danish participant who together represent the entire consortium.
