Important results from the project
** Denna text är maskinöversatt ** The objective of creating a system that can produce local food based on food waste was fulfilled. Upon validation, the conceptet Hyper Urban Farm was able to demonstrate cost and environmentally efficient food production. The specific goal of demonstrating full integration of food waste digestion and hydroponic greenhouse cultivation was not fully achieved. The systems had to be validated at two different locations. Buffers for plant nutrients, electricity were isntated at both locations to enable a "direct" virtual connection.
Expected long term effects
** Denna text är maskinöversatt ** The project results were largely positive with respect to the demonstrated integration capabilities and performance of the two systems. Both the microdigestion system and the hydroponic greenhouse concept have continued good commercial development and have sold several units integrating project results to various customers around the world. The result that wood fuel ash can replace tailored chemical additives in food waste digestion may be tested at many biogas plants, both small and large, as it may lead to lower production costs.
Approach and implementation
** Denna text är maskinöversatt ** The cooperation between project parties has worked well despite differences and geographical location. Involving a co-financing commercial partner who, within the framework of the project, investigates the concept for full-scale rollout could have led to exponential effect. That did not happen this time, but the method has potential and could be a winning concept for future project. The ambition to directly connect the two systems proved unattainable, but the buffer solution still enabled sufficient integration for a robust validation.
