Important results from the project

DIET achieved its goals and delivered the planned results. The project’s Delphi workshops provided valuable knowledge exchange and resulted in a policy brief for regional decision‑makers, scientific and popular publications and conference presentations. The results were also integrated into teaching at Karlstad University. New sustainability goals and indicators for social innovation in Värmland´s energy sector were developed, making the green energy transition more inclusive and sustainable.

Expected long term effects

In the long term, the project can strengthen Värmland’s sustainable energy transition by ensuring that the developed targets and indicators for social innovation continue to guide regional efforts. Ongoing knowledge exchange, enhanced collaboration between research and policy, and continued dissemination through education and regional networks will support more inclusive development and advance the region’s progress toward achieving the goals of Agenda 2030.

Approach and implementation

The project followed a clear plan and implementation went smoothly. The Delphi workshops enabled strong collaboration between stakeholders and the activities proved well-suited to developing meaningful sustainability targets and indicators. While the timeline was largely met, a few changes—mainly due to taking advantage of existing events organised by the regional authorities in Värmland—required minor adjustments. Despite this, cooperation remained strong and the project progressed as intended.
