Purpose and goal

The project will develop a model for a new way to stimulate commercialisation of research-based innovations, which otherwise would not have seen the light of day. It will lead to that researchers who do not want to commercialize, can be offered to transfer their IP, to waive their teacher´s exception. In this way, holding companies and their universities with their respective innovation offices intend to produce more commercially tested business ideas based on research findings. When such a system is in place, it is expected to contribute to a relevant increase in Swedish innovation.

Expected effects and result

The project will have led to the development of a new model and insights into how the offer can be received through a random sample of a few researchers as representatives of the target group and other actors to what extent appropriate solution/s can fit, in order to stimulate the growth of innovations. The effect is that we can then take the next step to implement the offer for a number of well-selected ideas at each university, while at the same time we can spread the word about our new model and the plans to implement it to a wider circle of academic and non-academic actors.

Planned approach and implementation

The parties will jointly work on the development of a model and its structural capital, such as agreements and other templates, review the needs for what should to be put in place, what entry criteria should exist, tax and cost issues, what process and division of responsibilities should be set up between the interested parties researchers, innovation offices and holding companies, potential conditions, legal approaches, and arrangements for profit sharing. We will also involve researchers to obtain their views, as well as inform other universities and academic actors.
