Purpose and goal
The project aims to enable sustainable disassembly of electric motors to increase the reuse and recycling of permanent magnets. The objective is to develop motor designs for automated, non-destructive disassembly, as well as novel adhesive systems with debonding-on-demand functionality that allow safe magnet removal without performance loss. By doing so, the project aims to strengthen resource efficiency, circularity within the vehicle sector, and supply security for critical raw materials.
Expected effects and result
The project aims to result in new motor designs and adhesive systems that enable automated, non-destructive disassembly of electric motors and reuse and recycling of permanent magnets without loss of performance. This contributes to increased material circularity, reduced need for new mining of critical earth metals and lower environmental impact. In the long term, the security of supply of critical raw materials and the competitiveness of a sustainable European industry are strengthened.
Planned approach and implementation
The project is carried out through parallel development of adhesive systems, e-motor design, and validation under relevant conditions to identify interdisciplinary solutions. The work includes material development and characterization, and mechanical and thermal simulations. Prototype demonstrations under industrially relevant conditions are conducted to verify performance. Continuous collaboration and knowledge exchange ensure efficient project execution and strong industrial relevance.
