Purpose and goal
The goal of this project is to focus on design and deployment of a remote operation center (RoC), as we see that RoC is a crucial part that will enable large-scale deployment of automated vehicles with remote support. The project tackles different challenges, e.g., RoC design and development, system architecture, human-machine interaction concepts, definition of roles and tasks of remote operators, regulatory and certification framework for deployment, and wireless communication network.
Expected effects and result
The expected results are 1) to propose a RoC concept that can handle remote operation of a fleet of multiple vehicle types, while ensuring safety of the operation and operator performance; 2) ensure that the developed concept has a system architecture, which is resilient to disturbances and latency; and 3) explore certification and legal frameworks that align with existing frameworks. These results will strengthen the competitiveness of Swedish stakeholders within the field of remote operation.
Planned approach and implementation
The project is organized into 6 main work packages (WPs). WP1 covers remote operation system design, WP2 covers development of advanced remote assistance functionality, WP3 covers state monitoring and safety metrics for remote operators, WP4 covers adaptive HMI and remote operator workstation, WP5 covers Laws, regulations, and standards, and finally WP6 conducts demonstration and addresses deployment guideline.
