Dali XX - Climatefriendly, innovative wooden tower for windturbines

Reference number
Coordinator InnoVentum AB
Funding from Vinnova SEK 200 000
Project duration March 2013 - July 2013
Status Completed

Purpose and goal

The aim and goal of the project has been to develop technically and commercially a innovative wooden tower concept for a growing market of small wind turbines . Special attention have been paid to maximize energy production and use of renewable material, while minimizing use of non-renewable materials . In addition to a technical concept, a market analysis shall be made and the economic and environmental benefits shall be identified. InnoVentum have fulfilled these requirements through a detailed technical report on the concept, as well as one that analyze business considerations.

Results and expected effects

The DALI XX Project has resulted in a design solution that is ready to take to next step - a full scale prototype to validate the design practically . Complete EuroCode 5 calculations have been made with appropriate assumptions . A resource efficient method to erect the tower have been developed. Material have been selected carefully, BOM established and a initial supply chain identified. The technical design is very resource and performance efficient to maximize the economic and environmental benefit . The specific economic and environmental benefits are well documented.

Approach and implementation

Collaboration with Lund Technical Institute (LTH) was initiated for initial wooden tower drawings, while the current DALI XX technical tower design has been primarily driven under collaboration with ENSTIB (leading institute of wood research in France) engineers. The commercial information has been assembled through extensive market research work by InnoVentum within their target markets. A top down analysis has been made by first analyzing the the total market, and then by identifying the addressable market . Assumptions of penetration rates have been made at a detailed level.
