Important results from the project
With support from a Vinnova grant, we coordinated the LIGNOFUN proposal for CBE-JU Innovation Action Call (IA-05) on September 18, 2024. The grant helped us gather a diverse consortium of 18 partners, including 7 SMEs, 1 large company, 9 research organizations and 1 cluster. We wrote a competitive proposal and hired a consulting firm to develop a strategy to replace fossil-based products with sustainable, lignin-based chemicals.
Expected long term effects
In the longer term, the LIGNOFUN project can impact the bioeconomy and the chemical industry by converting lignin, an underutilized resource, into high-value aromatic chemicals. This reduces dependence on fossil resources and promotes a bio-based economy. The innovations in lignin depolymerization can lead to new materials such as foam, nylon and glue, which contribute to sustainable supply chains and reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
Approach and implementation
The project writing for LIGNOFUN involved a collaboration between the diverse consortium of 18 partners. We established clear roles and responsibilities, facilitated regular meetings for input and feedback, and aligned with project goals. The proposal layout included an executive summary, project objectives, methodology, expected impacts and detailed budgets to ensure clarity and competitiveness.
