Important results from the project
The project had two parts, where in part 1 methods to identify IT-staff and inventors been at focus. The outcome has deviated from the goal insofar as the identification of IT-staff has been deferred to part 2 and has thus been carried out quantitatively. Part 2 has successfully been carried out according to plan, where education, competence development and labor market experiences that make individuals productive have been identified for the two investigated key groups.
Expected long term effects
One of the major results in part 1 has been the evaluation of matching methods and whether these can be applied on Statistics Sweden data. We found this part to work highly satisfactorily at a relatively low cost. The recommendation is to further the establishment of such matching at Statistics Sweden. For the second part we have identified education tracks and the importance of work experience for the two key groups. Two reports have been written, added as attachments on the respective parts.
Approach and implementation
For the first part, a collaborative effort was undertaken by CIRCLE and Statistics Sweden, in order to evaluate the identification of Swedish inventors and linking to their databases. For the second part IT-staff and inventors were analyzed using large-scale quantitative databases housed at Statistics Sweden with data on inventors developed at CIRCLE.
