Important results from the project
The project delivered key insights beyond technical outcomes, showing that advanced solutions require not only technological development but also strategic and organisational readiness for effective adoption. Research in data-driven quality assurance revealed strong links between machine parameters and product quality. Engaging experts and employees when driving digital technologies is crucial, especially in view of Industry 5.0’s focus on human interaction and critical thinking.
Expected long term effects
Results show Virtual Commissioning can reduce lead times by linking physical systems with virtual models, through organisational alignment and management support. Mobile robot scheduling bridged theory and practice, but needs further work on flexibility and scalability. The developed logistics solution is set for industrial use, aiming to boost efficiency, robustness, and reliability. An optimisation model for process flow serves to further digital transformation in manufacturing environments.
Approach and implementation
The project was carried out with senior researchers, PhD students, research engineers, and master’s thesis students. Three inspiration seminars with highly relevant industrial experts organised on digital twins and virtual commissioning, complemented by an interview and workshop study to assess their industrial relevance. Regular biweekly meetings and annual face-to-face meetings at partner sites ensured continuous collaboration and technical knowledge exchange throughout the project.
