Project duration February 2021 - May 2022
Status Completed

Important results from the project

The innovation project has resulted in the first Swedish method for valuing and communicating the effects of positive and negative impacts on biodiversity in the event of changing land use. The method is, among other things, applicable to the mapping and exploitation of land, as well as to demonstrating gains of restoration activities. The aim is to increase predictability in permit processes, ensure cost efficiency and integrate KPIs for biodiversity in business development and reporting.

Expected long term effects

The project partners, together with experts and the reference group, have prioritized a Swedish version and an internationally applicable method that is also possible to quickly implement and scale for increased use. Anchoring with authorities, municipalities, and other stakeholders is included in the communication and dissemination of the results. New KPIs create opportunities to make comparisons and comply with effective decision-making processes. Education and skills development around areas of use need to be further developed to achieve and share the results.

Approach and implementation

Industry- and cross-functional collaboration has been in focus together with consciousness about inclusion and diversity. The layout has been adapted as needed. Information available via social media, in reference group meetings, via written communication and a number of workshop series with a positive response. Pilot studies in the field with data collection. Scientific grounds has led to three prototypes continuously presented to the steering committee. The ability to analyze and the amount of data in the steering group´s work has facilitated management and prioritization.
