Important results from the project

Challenges have been investigated and the target group has been interviewed to develop proposals for a cooperation model for civil-military synergies. All information has been compiled in a report and the objectives have been met. It contributed to creating a dialogue about how crisis awareness affects innovation. In addition, synergies between civilian and military applications were identified, and thoughts were raised about how dual-use can be used to strengthen Sweden´s competitiveness.

Expected long term effects

The study is a basis for which challenges and opportunities exist regarding civil-military synergies. Once the collaboration has started, the effects are increased collaborations between innovative startups and the Armed Forces. By promoting startups´ business development, collaborations can open new markets and increase competitiveness. The project lays the foundation for cooperation between actors in the innovation system, which can strengthen Sweden´s position as a leading innovation nation.

Approach and implementation

The project was carried out for the most part as planned. The target group was interviewed to understand the challenges and through internal workshops various proposals were evaluated. The primary challenge identified is the difficulty in establishing contact with the Armed Forces. This made the feasibility study more challenging. To get around the problem, interviews were conducted with large companies and organizations that have developed successful collaborations with the Defense Industry.
