Important results from the project
The goal was to find a solution with good economics that enables every level and benefit from the raw material into the smallest fiber and any residual or by-products. We therefore wanted as many parties as possible in the wool´s circular chain to be represented and involved in the project. From sheep farmers through sheep shearers, suppliers, clothing manufacturers to consumers. In addition to two concrete wool garments, the project has generated a number of synergy effects such as cross-industry collaborations, knowledge transfer / increase, innovations and product development.
Expected long term effects
The project analyzes have led to many questions but also to several solutions. International contacts and collaborations have been established to resolve the points that are currently lacking in Swedish wool processing. In this way, we have nevertheless been able to produce two different woolen garments based on 100% of Swedish wool. The models have been made timeless and of high quality to be used for many years after which they can either be recycled into new garments or composted. Today, 20 clothing and interior design companies have joined together in a unique joint wool venture.
Approach and implementation
We started with a B2B meeting to form networks. Then the work began on a system analysis that has resulted in a comprehensive mapping of the wool´s path from sheep and fiber to finished product. A market survey, done by the participating companies, has resulted in increased knowledge of the market but also of the consumer´s requirements and purchasing habits. Business relationships have been established and new business models have been created. Collaboration throughout the value chain has provided increased knowledge of how the circular perspective can provide better profitability.
