Purpose and goal

Currently, there are no eligibility requirements for the use of recycled plastic in the cable industry. The aim of the project is to develop industrial methods for recycling plastic from cables in an environment where the results can be scaled up and introduced into production. The project´s objective is to develop a demonstrator where recycled plastic from cables is used for either the manufacture of new cables or cable protection pipes.

Expected effects and result

A positive outcome is expected to eventually lead to an agreement between clients, cable producers and recycling operators, with the aim of introducing recycled plastic in the manufacture of cables.

Planned approach and implementation

Collection and sorting of both waste from cable production and cable from consumers. The plastic is reduced in size and cleaned of any impurities. Further separation may be required. Extrusion and melt filtration of the plastic into pellets. Analysis of materials. Tests with recycled pellets in production and accompanying tests of the demonstrator.
