Project duration June 2024 - June 2027
Status Ongoing

Purpose and goal

The aim of the VIVA project is to develop an eye tracking sensor with robust and cutting-edge energy-saving technology that will track the eye and pupil position at high sampling rates. This will enable a hands-free, distraction-free information exchange for several exciting use cases, such as hands-free operations of mobile phones, attention monitoring in cars, instant feedback during driving, and the support of the well-being of people through cognitive state analysis.

Expected effects and result

The project aims to develop both the necessary sensor technology to track the eyes as well as developing HMI (Human-Machine Interface) concepts and algorithms for controlling or gathering data from smart glasses. A demonstrator will be set up to prove the overall system and its applicability as well as the achievement of the project objectives. Sigma Connectivity’s main role in the VIVA project is to package the new technology into a consumer-friendly reference design which allows for further research and development.

Planned approach and implementation

The set-up consists of the development of a built-in system that interacts with newly developed sensor technology. The system can use advanced algorithms that process sensor data as well as providing external connections. All this is done in collaboration with high-tech companies and universities around Europe within the framework of Chips JU 2023 RIA VIVA.
