Important results from the project
This project has allowed for initial exchanges within a mixed group of Montreal and Malmö actors around sustainable business models for urban carbon-neutral last-mile delivery. The project has reunited organizations from the public, private and cooperative sector in both cities. Building upon the previous experiences and specific expertise of the participants, the exchanges were structured in two workshops and a field trip to Montreal, between May and September 2023.
Expected long term effects
The international diversity of participants -from the public, private and cooperative sector- allowed sharing experiences from a broad perspective, including operational, financial, social and environmental factors of sustainable last-mile delivery. Outcomes include knowledge transfer, strengthening of the participants’ local networks for sustainable mobility, and the creation of a knitted international community of actors engaged in the joint development of sustainable last-mile delivery.
Approach and implementation
The initial workshop succeeded as a first space of contact, where some common perspectives were identified. The field trip to Montreal and the second workshop helped develop a more grounded approach to possible collaborations around sustainable last-mile delivery. In retrospect, however, more time and fully in-person encounters would have helped to land a specific solution proposal among international and diverse actors, even if there was a will to exchange and share.
