Important results from the project

Bus-as-a-Service (BaaS) has developed and tested new services built on the ITxPT specifications and pilots have in some cases even resulted in commercial services. The project has generated insights into new business opportunities with a focus on the operation and service development of a harmonized IT platform. The project has strengthened the consortium´s shared expertise in the area. Specifically, BaaS has influenced ongoing and future international standardization initiatives through ITxPT.

Expected long term effects

The project has strengthened the consortium partners´ individual capabilities, their joint expertise in the field and strengthened Sweden as a place for innovation and productive collaborations between all actors in the value chain, including competing suppliers. Nationally, there are plans for expanded collaboration under ITxPT´s auspices to harmonize how Swedish PTA and PTO work, which could lead to more efficient and more flexible public transport systems in Sweden.

Approach and implementation

The BaaS project has developed and tested new services built on the basis of the ITxPT specs in various pilots. The tests have been carried out in steps: - In-house at each party/industry party/supplier and member organization, at Västtrafik, PTO and product supplier. - in the ITxPT lab at Lindholmen Science Park - in a Volvo Bus testbed bus. The experiences from the pilots have then been used as input to discuss thematic areas such as virtualization, cybersecurity, etc in a workshop format.
