Venture A new recipe for the food system - build-up phase
Call A new recipe for the food system - establishment of innovation platforms for a sustainable food system

Purpose and goal

The goal is to establish a national coalition to use biotech in the food system. Biotech has the potential to be an important part in the transition, it may be possible to produce larger quantities of plant-based foods more efficiently – and from crops and in places that are not used today. The aim is to contribute to reduced climate and environmental impact from the food system, increased food safety, as well as jobs, growth and new business opportunities for farmers and industry.

Expected effects and result

Expected results: increased knowledge about the possibilities of biotech in the food system, more actors active and more start-ups in the area, and more products on the market. Expected effects: increased local production of food, improved plant based alternatives on the market, increased use of side streams, increased locally processing of crops, increased Swedish competitiveness.

Planned approach and implementation

The work is divided into five parallel work packages: project management, ecosystem, project portfolio, location and internationalisation. Biotech Heights is driven by a core team that implements certain initiatives with a direct mandate and existing funding. Other initiatives are instead implemented by actors in the ecosystem engaged by the platform. Biotech Heights monitors the development of activities and projects over time. The work towards the mission is based on levers in several areas.
