Important results from the project

The project essentially fulfilled the objective set, with the development of a gelatin-based material platform and understanding how formulations affect material properties. The project also provided unique results, such as the integration of an advanced resorbable network structure with gelatin in a moisture-free formulation that preserves the network architecture. This creates new knowledge and opens up for continued development and collaboration in the biomaterials field.

Expected long term effects

The project is expected to contribute in the long term to a reduced risk of implant-related infections, which is one of the major causes of complications in medical implants. Implant-associated infections can be prevented by materials that reduce bacterial adhesion and biofilm formation on surfaces, which in clinical practice has been shown to significantly reduce the frequency of infection on implants and thereby improve patient outcomes and healing.

Approach and implementation

The project was largely implemented according to plan with the right activities to achieve the goals, but we needed to extend the time slightly to be able to make necessary adjustments linked to a new process that was developed during the project. The schedule was otherwise followed and the collaboration worked very well between all parties.

The project description has been provided by the project members themselves and the text has not been looked at by our editors.
