Purpose and goal
Development of a heterogeneous drone swarm architecture consisting of two types of drones (surveyor/leader and inspector) for increased efficiency in wildfire response efforts.
Expected effects and result
The project aims to develop a working prototype of an autonomous drone swarm capable of real-time simultaneous wide-area mapping and detailed local inspections. This innovation will pave the way for future applications of drone swarms in wildfire response, where enhanced situational awareness is crucial for enabling prompt and targeted interventions, ultimately saving time, resources, terrestrial ecosystems, and lives.
Planned approach and implementation
The project runs between December 2025 and July 2026 and covers the following activities: Drone Sensor Integration and Algorithm Development; Autonomous Swarm Communication Algoritms; Integration and Test of System.
