Reference number
Coordinator YOVINN AB
Funding from Vinnova SEK 400 000
Project duration November 2019 - April 2020
Status Completed
Venture Competence centre

Important results from the project

The purpose is to streamline the implementation of additive manufacturing in the automotive industry, and to automate repetitive and time-consuming tasks with the help of self-learning systems. The project´s objective is to develop a process that uses machine learning to find parts and systems that are suitable and profitable for a transition to additive manufacturing. The project was carried out in accordance with the purpose as a valid need in the automotive industry was addressed.

Expected long term effects

The project results in a prototype of a digital tool used to streamline the screening process for which spare parts in the automotive industry are suitable for additive manufacturing by a semi-automated method. From reference cases of spare parts that is considered technically suitable for additive manufacturing by expert opinion, the user is guided to find spare parts that have similar technical conditions.

Approach and implementation

** Denna text är maskinöversatt ** The project proceeds through a series of experiments where users annotate a collection of 3D models according to specific instructions. The machine learning model results together with the users´ comments provide the basis for the next experiment. The project has been iteratively implemented and the insights provided by the experiments in several cases have been unexpected and led to new ideas and issues.

The project description has been provided by the project members themselves and the text has not been looked at by our editors.
