Important results from the project

** Denna text är maskinöversatt ** The purpose of the project was to understand EU Taxonomy´s impact on district heating investments. The goal was to create an opportunity for investors to understand whether these assets align with the requirements or not, to minimize investment risks. Through the project, we have established the impact on a concrete district heating case (Göteborg Energi) and developed a methodology for screening district heating activities supporting the Taxonomy´s ambition to phase out non-sustainable assets and phase in sustainable assets.

Expected long term effects

4 results: 1 Current knowledge: rendered starting point of the project 2 Method that examines existing and planned district heating assets: systematically analysis of the Taxonomy´s impact on district heating assets made possible 3 Understanding how district heating assets included in existing investment strategy (green bonds for Gothenburg) can be considered from a Taxonomy perspective: gives understanding of investor´s risk picture 4: Understanding of how EU Taxonomy supports the energy transition - as expected: suppors continued development of the Taxonomy

Approach and implementation

Coordinator, IVL arranged stakeholder group meetings for monthly input on results. After established state of knowledge (IVL) the model (IVL & EURAC) was built and applied. In parallel, investors´ strategies for green energy were analyzed (STUTTGART & IVL, RF). During the latter part of the project, IVL worked to understand the effectiveness of Taxonomy in policy by 2 dedicated workshops and a final seminar. 3 webinars where the project´s knowledge has been shared have been carried out. A scientific article has been compiled which summarizes the results.
